Recce Team
CL Kao is a serial founder and systems thinker with a long-standing passion for improving developer collaboration and delivery. He created SVK, a precursor to Git, adopted by companies like Apple and Ubisoft. He later built one of the first MLops platforms used by TSMC and major banks. Now as the founder of Recce, CL is on a mission to bring trust and proof of correctness to data delivery—starting with dbt and aiming to reshape how data teams review and ship changes in the AI era.
Recce (pronounced "wreck-E") is short for "reconnaissance", a British military term that refers to the act of scouting ahead to gather information before taking action.
That's exactly what our product is built for. Recce helps data teams look ahead before merging a pull request. It brings visibility to what changed, what's impacted, and what needs review. Just like a scout clears the path for the troops, Recce ensures your data is safe to ship.
Over the years, CL witnessed firsthand how software delivery evolved with new technologies, frameworks, and team dynamics. Today the AI boom is driving another shift toward data-centric systems built on non-deterministic components. In this new world, ensuring data privacy, security, and compliance is no longer optional; it's foundational.
That's why we built Recce. Like version control transformed code collaboration, Recce brings "proof of correctness" to data changes. It starts with dbt and expands toward a future where every data team can validate and ship with confidence.
